The sex is totally credible. You don't have actors grabbing for sheets or towels to cover up their bodies--hey just like real life!! The scenes are tense, the technical side perfect.

You are going to be exposed to some troubled people and they're not only kids. Adults are having a hell of a time getting through life too.

Some want a lot more than the 2 point 3 kids and a white picket-fence house in the 'burbs. They long for illicit sex.

But look for more, you'll find it in this film. These are characters disturbed by life and not able to function, exactly like your friends and co-workers and neighbors.

Lots of people stumble through life and don't have a clue how to behave, how to be loving or tender. Relationships with some people are constant conflicts which they don't even understand themselves.

This film shows us some. The sad part is most people don't even realize how screwed up their lives are. I'm not going to review the plot. You just have to see it yourself and form your own views.

Because films have to be seenthat's the art form. I'd also like to congratulate and thank everyone involved in this production for having the courage to give us something worthwhile.

In the 's there was a film movement called surrealism which was designed to shock people. It did, but today we don't get much shock value out of those old films.

So real you feel totally nervous, never knowing what you are going to see next. All the green-screen and digital video effects dished out by Hollywood can't compare to the plain, good, unselfconscious acting and direction.

Every character gets my "Oscar" and the direction and camera-work are so incredible they defy description.

Whoever wrote the script knows how to write. Kids aren't as verbal as a lot of movies make them out to be. That lack of dialogue is what always distinguishes a great film for me.

I'm not a big fan of voice- over to make plot points, but this film is so outstanding in so many ways the short bits of narration do not diminish it.

Great work all around but if you grew up on "Disney" forget it. These episodes are inter-cut within each other.

Though Larry's Clark's movies deal with very explicit, or "realistic" subject matter his presentation is overwrought.

Characters are more caricatures than 'real' people. The zealot father, the aging housewife, the weird kid, the father with unrequited love.

The scenes with these characters were hard for me to take in. The actions and reactions they take seemed so hackneyed to me. Could it be that Larry Clark is developing a "larry clarkness"?

As one who is purported to be a breaker of styles and conventions this movie was shot pretty conventionally with lots of sex. I wasn't too impressed with this effort.

Some shots, as Larry Clark says, are there for realistic purposes but I just found it to be sensationalistic and unnecessary. The cinematography was great that is probably due to the Ed Lachman.

The blue and red tinge really added to their respective scenes. Probably use of tungsten for outdoors and daylight inside. Correct me if I'm wrong but I could swear Larry Clark is moving from realism to symbolism.

In one scene he has the family gather together on the front steps. Your good Ole' American suburban family, full of deceit and infidelity but putting up a great face none the less.

It seemed like a tableau. It takes a special kind of genius to make group sex, incest, suicide, and murder quite this dull.

That genius is Larry Clark. Overwhelmed by exactly the fragmentary voyeurism that is the essence of his photography, Clark is seemingly unwilling or unable to extend any of the sensational moments he films far enough into either the past or the future to give them meaning; they remain instead iconic snapshots of Clark's private sexual obsessions.

This means that while Clark is clearly very excited to pose his actors, he doesn't trouble at all with their characters, and this fixation on a physical presence specifically of willing young men that the viewer can't access becomes a black hole at the movie's centre.

Many of the things that happen - a young man who kills his grandparents, a boy who sleeps with his girlfriend's mother, a young woman forced to marry her insanely religious father - could have been the basis of a really interesting film if only they were followed through: each one is a beginning or a conclusion, but none is a story.

The characters don't develop or change, the situations don't evolve, what occurs is without causes or repercussions. What happens to the girl who marries her father?

How does the boy cope with cheating on his girlfriend with her adolescence-obsessed mother, and why would a grown woman do such a thing?

Why does Tate kill his grandparents, and what happens to him? I'd be curious to know, but Larry Clark, clearly, is not: greedily, he wants only each story's most climactic moment, again and again, without context, without structure - and finally, unless you share just his taste in sexual imagery, without interest.

In 'Ken Park' Larry Clark has genuinely produced something beautiful. Certainly no one's adolescent years include all of the experiences presented, but each represents the desires, impulses, and inescapable influences that dominate the teenage psyche.

That Park skips from story to story, without clear conclusions to each, can be frustrating but it is deliberate.

Apparently this may shock some of you, but these characters are not mere fiction and their stories are not fantasy.

Evry character, in every scene save perhaps that in which Tate kills his grandparents is analogous to the experiences of almost everyone i knew when i was yrs.

Equally universal were the random, if superficial, moments of clarity and understanding and thus despair regarding one's situation.

Whether you wish to accept it or not, this movie captures the essence of teenage life in the 90s and today, even if drastically.

It is sad that so few among the relevant age-group are suited to watch this movie, while so many need it to help them understand their own plight.

Considering I grew up in Visalia, and spent much of my youth at the skate park featured at the beginning of the film, I can attest there is plenty of realism in this film.

Our society is deeply troubled, and maybe YOU don't see things like this every day, but I certainly have. In fact, just this week one of the locals that starred in this film came to my friend's house in the middle of the night spun out of his gourd on meth.

It would have fit perfectly as a scene in this film. To those who argue detractors don't "get it", I promise you I do.

My problem is for those who won't. I get it because I've lived in this town and seen its dirty side, which I'm positive can be seen in many other cities in this country.

To someone who has led a sheltered and fortunate life, watching this movie will not help them to understand anything. To someone like me who hasn't led a sheltered and fortunate life, well there isn't much difference, this film is pure shock value with absolutely no plot.

It's possible to make a movie as shocking and graphic as this and still provide some sort of coherence and plot, but that's not Larry Clark's style.

He simply confronts you with tragic and disturbing situations, with little empathy, understanding, or context. You're left just feeling disgusting.

GodivaVII 30 August I didn't enjoy this latest offering by Larry Clark. It was as if he took Todd Solondz' Happiness, removed all wit, all semblance of plot and character development, and threw in a few explicit sex scenes for some shock value.

After watching Bully and Kids, I have come to accept Clark's style of storytelling, however I felt that this movie went nowhere. He's usually good at juggling multiple story lines that end up converging in a natural sense, but I felt that in Ken Park he didn't have a enough time to delve into any single character's storyline deep enough for the audience to become engaged with the characters, which to me is a crucial element in any good drama.

When the 1h10 mark came around, I was more alarmed by the fact that there were only 20 more minutes in which to resolve the story than by the incest and murder taking place on screen.

I hope Larry Clark's work will only get better after this. Depraved children blame their parents for everything, while indulging in perversions of every kind.

The sole aim of this exploitation film camouflaged as a social drama is to shock. Ironically, it's actually predictable.

The same plot-device gets used over and over: a kid thinks his parent is gone for a while, but they come back early and do EXACTLY what you know they will do.

Of course, there was going to be pedophilia, and of course incest, and murder, and and and. It's the same people who brought us "Kids", after all.

A far better film, I might add. Everybody's screwed up: yes, we get the picture. No need to show erect penises of minors, and even less necessary to show sperm flying out of one of them.

If I wanted porn, I'd have watched porn instead of this trite "drama". And the humour? Where was the humour? Whereas the movie "Happiness" brilliantly dealt with "shocking" subjects, i.

The acting is good, the sense of reality also, but this film is far more suited to pedophiles and other perverts than intelligent, "straight" viewers like me.

Forget this garbage. Don't say you weren't warned: the movie includes a teenager masturbating — and ejaculating — while strangling himself, and a father coming home drunk who starts to feel up his adolescent son.

Everything you've heard about this movie won't prepare you for actually seeing it. Mr Parker 22 July I can freely say that it takes a lot for a movie to shock me.

After watching Ken Park last night, I have to add it to the list of films that have left me with my jaw on the floor.

This movie doesn't push the envelope, it douses it in gasoline, lights it up, flings it out the window, then empties an arsenal's worth of bullets into it and mixes the ashes in with a diseased pitbull's food.

I was able to watch this movie last night at a friend's house. I don't know what you, the person reading this, has heard or read about this film but chances are that whatever you've heard is indeed true.

I've seen all of Larry Clark's films, with the exception of Teenage Caveman. They're all pretty shocking in their own way.

I remember walking out of the theater after watching Bully, feeling as if someone wailed me across the head with a rotten plank. This film on the other hand, is like a solid punch to the gut.

If you've seen Kids or Bully, you know what to expect in that Larry Clark is going to take things a step further.

To make a long story short, you see things in this movie that you would never think they'd have the audacity to show. The story itself revolves around a skateboarder named Ken Park who commits suicide at the end of the opening credits.

Actually, the film doesn't focus on him but on four kids whose lives are loosely connected to his. Each of these kids has an individual storyline to follow.

None of them are pretty. The sex in this film is pretty graphic. There's no actual penetration per se but you do get to see various sexual acts in detail, some of them carried out fully.

Thanks to this movie, I now have the image of some kid masturbating while choking himself with a robe sash tied to a doorknob.

And not only do you get to see this in disturbing detail, you get to see the inevitable conclusion of such an act.

This scene alone is cause to question whether or not this movie should be labeled as pornography. The scene itself is like a train wreck that you can't take your eyes away from.

I don't get my kicks off of watching stuff like this and I don't particular enjoy it. It's just one of those things that keep you watching because it's so grotesque.

There are other scenes similar to this in the movie that will cause the same kind of response. You get to see these kids I say kids because that's what they are; not one of them looks a day over twenty-one and the majority of them look frighteningly underage doing pretty much everything you wouldn't want to think your own kids are doing, which I guess is the whole point to this.

I'm pretty sure that this was Larry Clark's intent and he succeeds, to an extent. There's a slight problem I have with this showmanship, which I'll discuss later.

I think he manages to show convincingly that depravity lurks beneath what we consider to be the simplest, wholesome things.

Things like religion and our idea of the perfect family. There's a scene of a family having dinner with their daughter's boyfriend that left me feeling like I had things crawling all over me because of what was shown earlier in the movie between the boyfriend and his girlfriend's mother.

I'll leave you to see the details of that one for yourself but I'll say that it contains footage that left me with my eyes wide open in disbelief.

Watching the dinner scene is almost like looking at a delicious looking pie, fresh out of the oven, that you know is bubbling inside with rot and decay.

If you see the movie, you'll get what I'm trying to tell you. It's sad to see the things you see in this movie because like it or not, there is just no denying that these things and worse exist.

There are places in our country, let alone the world, where these things happen with disturbing regularity. I commend Larry Clark for being brave enough to use the film medium to display what a lot of people refuse to accept.

The one problem I had with this movie is that I think Larry Clark did go a bit overboard. I'm sorry to say it but I really believe that he did.

The man has always been the guy who wants to push your buttons. I'm cool with that. I consider myself a liberal and I'm always up for a little envelope pushing.

I believe that he has a natural desire to show us that things are not well with the youth of today and I believe that his intentions are well meant.

While watching this movie I couldn't help but feel that it might have crossed the line and fallen into smut territory. There's a shot in Bully, where Bijou Phillips climbs into a car and you get this long, lingering view of her crotch, which truth be told, was completely unnecessary.

That's the same feeling I got with this movie in certain areas. Do we really need to see this kid whack off and blow his load on screen?

Do we need to see a close up of this kid's finger massaging a girl's vagina? Do we need to see the main female in this movie lick another character's penis?

Do we need to see any of this and in such detail? To what purpose is this being shown to us? Is all of this absolutely necessary?

Like I said, I think Larry Clark means well. He directs with a sure hand and he gets convincing performances from his actors.

It's people like him who show us that things aren't all rosy underneath, sort of like a rough and rugged Michael Moore. I really hope that he's not filming these scenes to satisfy some sick vices.

A lot of people perceive him to be nothing more than a dirty old man who enjoys seeing young kids do things they shouldn't be and then filming it.

I'm going to give him a little more credit than that but this movie makes you wonder, even if just a little, what this guy's intentions actually are.

I'd really like to see what he does in his next movie because I think it's going to be tough to top what's shown here and be able to justify it as being less than borderline pornography or even full-on pornography because Ken Park toes that line.

Finally, while we may not all agree on what constitutes art, all art deserves to be seen, no matter the content.

I'd hate to think that I still live in a world where an artist's rights to freedom of expression gets thrown by the wayside by a bunch of people who presume to think that they know what's good for us, the viewing public.

Coventry 20 February Ugh, I should have known better Ken Park - the third installment in Clark's portraits of teenage alienation - is even worse than Kids and Bully.

This guy deserves his status and reputation of artistic film-maker as much as I deserve the Nobel peace-price.

I hope, when all the hype cools down, more and more people will realize that he's nothing more than an untalented and dull cineast who's only out to shock audiences.

When watching his films, I get the idea that his only goal is to get banned and censored in as much countries as humanly possible The story and especially the characters in Ken Park are pathetic, uninspired, empty and not at all that offensive And this film is completely arrogant and egocentric.

You can actually hear Larry Clark thinking: "Oh, look at me I'm controversial". Bah, how pitiful. There's nothing artistic about explicit and outrageous sex scenes read: semi-pornographically scenes!

When I first saw this film - at a festival - the public spontaneously started to applaud at the close up of a masturbation sequence Why, why WHY, I ask?!?

If things like masturbation, sodomy and incest can be considered 'artistic', then why is everybody embarrassed to admit they watch porno?

Ken Park is a soporific and utterly annoying anthology that unites a couple of messed up teenagers and their even more messed up parents you don't care about to begin with, anyway.

I surely hope your VCR-player has a fast-forward button! Yet, the most hilarious statement I keep hearing is that Larry Clark movies are eye-openers and realistic portraits of society nowadays What a load of nonsense is that?

Life isn't like this and surely people aren't as stupid and depressing as Clark pictures them. And if you think they are, you should go out more Every kid i chill with could be a character in this movie.

I'm 16, I'm a skater, I'm in high school, I have parents I don't get along with. Although I don't partake in these actions, the people whom I spend my weekends with do constantly.

This movie is a very realistic account of the life that is lead by many of those close to me. Banning this movie does kids a favor, it doesn't let our parents see the ridiculous lives we lead.

All of us kids should see this movie so we can all question our actions and realize the hole we've dug ourselves. But parents should be protected from seeing such films as "Kids" and "Ken Park".

These are the realities we try so hard to keep from our parents, why would we want to let larry clark show them? I was unaffected by this movie, impressed at the reality it captured, but unaffected by the actions in which the kids partook, except Tate's ordeal, although I know kids like that, I generaly don't associate with them, and that made his part of the movie very difficult to handle.

Larry Clark scares me. I just hope my parents don't get a hold of this movie, or "KIDS". He has done a terrific job of grabbing the reality of our lives, and I would hope he keeps making these amazingly realistic movies, as long as my parents don't see them.

I'm beginning to think that Larry Clark cares more about "pushing the envelope" by depicting exponentially more and more gratuitous teenage sex with each of his films than he does about ensuring any realistic plot.

This was yet another in a string of pointless 'those crazy kids! Even if you're very, very creative and desperate to find a message or lesson to be learned from this contrived bit of garbage, I'm afraid you're still going to be somewhat disappointed.

However, if you enjoy the illusion of kiddie porn disguised not so cleverly as a hip, edgy indie flick then you'll probably think it's great.

The Guy-2 10 September This movie was painful to sit through. It was extremely disturbing, depressing, boring, and poorly written. None of the stories were remotely interesting.

Here are some of the "highlights": 1 a teenager he looks like he's 15 yrs old goes down on girlfriend's mother, 2 a kid around the same age blows his brains out, 3 A widower catches his daughter having sex with her boyfriend, beats the crap out of him, then forces her to put on her mother's wedding dress and marry him the father 4 a teenager kills his grandparents 5 A teenager's father tries to go down on him.

Also, do we really need to see a shot of a guy peeing?? Or of him masturbating? Or of the ensuing "money shot"? I'm all for nudity in movies, but here it was just pointless.

If this sounds like your idea of entertainment, then you're in for a treat. Dockelektro 2 February Ok, so the movie tries to express a message about today's youth and their disorientation.

It tries it through shock technique, depicting sex at pornographic levels. But really, haven't we all seen it before, in a softer and much better way precisely on Larry Clark's "Kids"?

I can acknowledge that there was an effort of putting morality together in this one, but really, what comes out even for an attentive spectator is that this movie ends up pushing the limits too much, and becomes boring at it.

The result is another shock movie, another art house hardcore piece, that, to me, didn't stick too much. Clearly, more gratuitous than mind-bending.

Give us a story instead. I normally don't slam a movie as hard as I'm compelled to at the moment, however I think I need to. I expect some level of entertainment from a movie, however this movie does not deliver.

There's always movies with a boring part or two, but this is just a flatline from start to finish. Even the sexually explicit scenes earning it a ban in several countries manage only to depress the viewer.

The disturbing images portrayed in this film seem to serve no purpose. While I enjoy the dark humor of the different levels of insanity people display at times, this movie doesn't even allow that.

In addition to its purposelessness, it seems to have no focus or direction. It seems more like a collection of videos strung together in what would be aptly titled "Lower-class America's Worst Moments.

As atrocious as this picture is, it's a display of this particular group of actors' ability to bring a script to reality.

Linoge 19 April I love all sorts of movies, and a lot of the time I go or rent usually horror hoping I will be offended which I'm not easily, matter of fact think this is the first time.

And if a movie has been banned well that makes it to my must see list. They're rarely ever good, but its usually a fun time.

Well this movie has changed my attitude about wanting to see banned movies. Wouldn't put this movie on the shelf with the worst porn has to offer. It pretends it's actually saying something deep and meaningful and I even get the feeling that those involved believe this to be true.

Which is frankly sadder then this movie. I'm sure this film will have it's few Robotic Elitists defending it zealously. But the plain fact is this movie isn't clever and deep it's something anyone with a camera and a few decent actors could make, thankfully most with those means probably agree with me.

Clark attempted to write the first script for Ken Park , basing it on personal experiences and people with whom he had grown up. Dissatisfied with his own draft, he hired Harmony Korine to pen the screenplay.

Clark ultimately used most of Korine's script, but rewrote the ending. The arrangement was to film using digital video, but Clark and Lachman used 35mm film instead.

Although it was sold for distribution to some 30 countries, [4] the film was not shown in the United Kingdom after director Larry Clark assaulted Hamish McAlpine, the head of the UK distributor for the film, Metro Tartan.

Clark was arrested and spent several hours in custody, and McAlpine was left with a broken nose. Clark says that this is because of the producer's failure to get copyright releases for the music used.

A protest screening held in Sydney , hosted by esteemed film critic Margaret Pomeranz , was shut down by the police. The film remains banned in Australia to this day and has not been successfully appealed since.

He casually socializes with her family, who are all completely unaware of the affair, including her husband and his girlfriend Hannah.

Claude fends off physical and emotional abuse from his alcoholic father while trying to take care of his neglectful pregnant mother, who never does anything to defend him.

Claude's father detests him for being insufficiently masculine. However, after coming home drunk one night, he attempts to perform oral sex on Claude, prompting the boy to run away from home.

Peaches is a girl living alone with her obsessive and overly-religious father, who fixates on her as the embodiment of her deceased mother. When her father catches her and her boyfriend Curtis on her bed about to have sex, he beats the boy and savagely disciplines her, including forcing her to participate in a quasi- incestuous wedding ritual with him.

Tate is an unstable and sadistic adolescent living with his grandparents, whom he resents and frequently abuses verbally. He is shown engaging in autoerotic asphyxiation during masturbation.

He eventually kills his grandparents in their bed, in retaliation for his grandfather "cheating" at Scrabble and his grandmother for "invading his privacy".

He finds that the act arouses him sexually. He records himself on his tape recorder so the police will know how and why he killed his grandparents.

After finishing recording, he puts his grandfather's dentures in his mouth, lies naked in his bed, and falls asleep.

The film cuts frequently between subplots, with no overlap of characters or events until the end. As Tate is arrested for his grandparents' murder, Shawn, Claude, and Peaches meet and have sex as a threesome , while Gary Stewart plays.

There is no explanation as to how the characters met other than alluding to them all being friends of Ken Park, yet they are never seen at any point before this event meeting each other or Ken Park.

The ending finally reveals the motive behind Ken Park's suicide: he has impregnated his girlfriend who responds to his question asking if she wanted to keep it by asking if he wishes he'd been aborted himself.

Realizing that he'd rather never have been born, he sets out to the skate park to kill himself. Clark attempted to write the first script for Ken Park , basing it on personal experiences and people with whom he had grown up.
